A Day In the life of a police officer
Deputy Jarrett Griswold wakes up, looks out the window at the dark night sky and
stars shining bright and begins to get ready for his nine to six graveyard
shift. He quickly takes a shower to wash off the exhaustion and trims his facial
hair to get rid of the whiskers. He irons his dark uniform shirt and pants to
make that perfect straight-legged crease. As he gets dressed, he makes sure he
doesn’t forget the five pound vest that could possibly save his life in a
violent situation. The same vest that also makes a nice seventy degree day feel
like a sauna when he is chasing an escapee down a dark rocky alley. The boots
that he polished and shined the night before are ready to slip on over the
perfectly straight dark black socks that he is required to wear. He looks in the
mirror, folds his collar, and carefully wraps the black belt that has all his
equipment hanging on it. The belt is weighed down with his gun, the sanitized
handcuffs he uses on a daily basis, taser, mace, baton, and the car mike box
that records everything he says while he is on duty. One last look in the
mirror, he catches glimpse of the perfectly aligned name plate that tells the
world that he is Deputy Officer J. Griswold and the patch of the American flag
that reminds him of his oath and loyalty. As he gets suited up, he transforms
into the quiet, stern police officer he has been trained to be.
Officer Griswold takes a seat in his patrol car and keys into the
dispatcher with his deputy number and says “In service, ready for duty”. The
first car that he sees has a missing tail light. Sounds simple. Yet, any good
police officer should assume that a simple traffic stop could quickly turn into
something much more serious and physical. He alerts the driver and passerbys
with his sirens and lights, instructing the driver to pull over. He informs the
dispatcher of his location, then cautiously approaches the vehicle with his hand
on his gun and his loved ones in mind. Although not a worry or doubt crosses his
mind that this was the profession he was called to do. Deputy Griswold and all
the other police officers in this world have a passion for this line of work.
